Climbing up the steps, there was a large platform, of about 500 or 600 sqft, and it was dry and well-ventilated. There was a bed in the centre of the platform made of grass, covered by a bunch of cotton quilts. Not far away, there was a small makeshift furnace made out of stone, stacking together to become a stove. There was even a large iron pan on top the stove.

Everywhere around the platform, there were several jars, filled with hundreds of plastic woven bags.

Zhang Xiao Qiang observed his surroundings carefully, and noticed that the cave was well stocked up, and those hundreds of plastic bags were filled with rice and other rations. Each bag could carry a hundred jin, hundreds of them meant there was a few ten thousands of rations here. There was even dried bacon hung on one side, and the amount seemed to have been gleamed off at least 2 fat pigs.

That was not all. Zhang Xiao Qiang discovered that there were even a thousand jin of cabbages, all placed neatly, as well as a dozen jins of dried plums, 2 huge jars of pickles, and there was even a coop of a dozen chickens, comprising of a rooster and his hens pecking about in one corner.

“This is too sick, it’s a hell of a base!” Zhang Xiao Qiang exclaimed.

“Should I just stay here till I die?” He was extremely unwilling to leave the resources behind.

However, the moment he thought of living together with Yang Ke’er for life, he felt a chill down his spine. That lass was too domineering, if he really had to live with her? It wasn’t going to become a relationship with his wife, it would be more like serving his ancestor.

As he drove the tractor slowly into the garden, Yang Ke’er who was training stared at him dumbly. Zhang Xiao Qiang immediately smirked: “Little Yang, you haven’t seen such a cool tractor before right?”

“Uncle, where did you steal that from?” That sentence almost caused Zhang Xiao Qiang to topple from the vehicle.

“What do you care, quick pack up, we’re moving!!!” Zhang Xiao Qiang barked at Yang Ke’er.

In the end, he decided to move to the cave to live for a period, before making his way towards the capital. Humans were after all social creatures, when facing the dangers of the apocalypse, a group was better than an individual. Furthermore, Yang Ke’er was training, and before she had fully grown, it was better to gain some street smarts to survive out there.

As they moved the mattresses and blankets from the upper storey, as well as other necessities from the rest of the house into the tractor, he called for Yang Ke’er to prepare to move out.

“Uncle, did you notice something different about me today?” Yang Ke’er used her hands to place her hair behind her ear, using a strange tone to ask.

Zhang Xiao Qiang squinted, nothing was different about that flat figure. “Nope, nothing’s different!” He announced.

“Uncle, look carefully again.” Yang Ke’er walked up to him and raised her head.

He fought his instincts to draw back, even though her clothes had been washed once, it had a history not being changed in 3 months, and that smell that emitted from her, it was truly indescribable!

“En?” Something was not right, each time Yang Ke’er got to within a 3m radius, Zhang Xiao Qiang would be overwhelmed by the smell till his tears came out. However, there was no weird stench today, in fact, it felt…fresh?

Yang Ke’er had combed her hair neatly, and her shoulder-length hair tied neatly into a ponytail by the side. She was wearing a colorful scarf around her neck, and she was dressed in a pale yellow windbreaker. A pair of jeans that was a little white from being washed too often covered her bottom, and her feet donned a pair of female hiking shoes.

Her entire person had become fresh, furthermore, adding to her bath yesterday, that pale face was a little flushed, and her lips that had been dry seemed to be a little lush. She blinked her huge eyes, wrinkling her nose in a mischievous way, causing her to look a little charming and cute, like a young flower that had no equal. Zhang Xiao Qiang stared, and unconsciously felt a little light-headed. Then he took one more look at her figure, and the previous dreamy-like fantasy in his mind disappeared without a trace.

At this moment, Zhang Xiao Qiang knew himself clearly, he had always thought that he was a lolicon, and thought that he had the bearing of some perverted uncle, now that he saw this loli in front of him, seeing that flat washboard-like figure, he finally understood.

“Seems like, I’ve always been a connoisseur of curvy women!” He nodded slightly to himself.

“What’s nice to see, how long have you not brushed your teeth? Your mouth smells!” Zhang Xiao Qiang could not help but tease Yang Ke’er.

“Uncle, you’re a big baddie!” Yang Ke’er pouted.

Her clothes seemed to remind Zhang Xiao Qiang of his own dirty clothes, with holes in some places as well. “Guess I should go get changed as well.”

After flipping over everything upstairs, he finally found some suitable clothes, just that the colour was a bit too bright for his liking. In fact, it might draw the attention of some mutant beasts from afar. He looked some more and discovered an unopened pair of lingerie, “Should I get Yang Ke’er to try these on?” He thought evilly.

“Forget it, if given to her, it’d be a waste of a nice pair of lingerie!” Zhang Xiao Qiang shook his head.

He came downstairs, having donned a piece of black down jacket, with a high-necked sweater inside, and he wore an old-fashioned blue navy pants, which was of unknown material, but it was rugged and resilient. It was suitable for any situation, and was most likely worn by the man’s father in the past during his service. It still looked new, and was extremely comfortable.

Zhang Xiao Qiang then threw the rest of the clothes into the boot, “Sit tight!” calling out to Yang Ke’er, before driving the tractor towards the cave. Chapter 32: What Thing?!

Yang Ke’er was currently running around the platform continuously, while Zhang Xiao Qiang was currently sharpening a wooden stick, sticking it into a beast horn, and tested its durability. The beast horn was light, yet sturdy and extremely tough, after being shaped into a spear, it was a whole lot lighter than the steel spear. He displayed a number of spear techniques, carefully executing the moves in case the beast horn came off.

“Pu” He stuck the beast horn through the ground, and the head pierced into the ground smoothly. Even after shaking the spear, it was still considered sturdy. He found some metal nails and used a hammer to lock the beast horn in place.

“Pu, pu, pu” Following the sounds of the hammer falling, the spear was driven further into the ground, and before he knew it, he realised that the beast horn had been driven about 40cm into the ground. Even when he tried to push the spear body, it did not move. He tried to yank it up, and could not pull it out.

Zhang Xiao Qiang bent down and peered at the spearhead. It was lodged deeply into the ground, and the ground beside it had already started to crack, with some earth and soil shaken loose.

“Shit, that’s sick.” The layer of soil was only about 30cm thick, and below it, was a layer of rock. The beast horn had actually penetrated the rock and was stuck in it.

“I didn’t use strength though?” Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at the beast horn in frustration, grabbing another beast horn and tried stabbing at the rock. “Pu” The beast horn actually drove about 2, 3cm into the rock.

“There’s a way!”

Zhang Xiao Qiang used the other beast horn to dig up the beast horn spear. He looked at the rock that had a hole carved out, then looked again at his beast horn spear. There was not a scratch on the spear head, the beast horn still as sharp as before, and the entire surface was shiny. It seemed as though Zhang Xiao Qiang’s earlier actions had no effect on the beast horn.

“What an amazing weapon!” He let out a sigh, “I’m afraid that it can pierce even a D2!”

The sky was turning dark, and the clouds were likewise obscure. Zhang Xiao Qiang drove the tractor along the road in the countryside, as Yang Ke’er squated in the trunk, with some food resources beside her.

“Which house already?” Zhang Xiao Qiang asked as he drove. “It’s the 3rd one! Uncle, we haven’t even touched the food in the cave yet, and they won’t be gone so soon, why are we sourcing for more?” Yang Ke’er asked in confusion.

“Why do you care so much!” Zhang Xiao Qiang did not bother with her and continued driving.

Although he had decided earlier to find a survivor’s base in WH City, it did not mean that he shouldn’t prepare a backup plan for himself. That cave could be considered a secret hideout, and it was an excellent place for storing resources. The more the better. Since it was a peaceful time now, he wanted to make use of the opportunity to stock up.

Having searched through 3 houses in the afternoon, they found a few thousand jins of rice, as well as other food. He felt it was not enough, and hence they were on the search again.

The tractor stopped by a river, which was only about 6m wide. The water was not deep, and one could see the pebbles and soil beneath the water. The riverbank was narrow, with wild grass growing along the sides. There were also all sorts of plastic bags and bottles as well as some glass containers that were clustered at one side, causing the water to be quite murky.

There was a small bridge overlooking the river, and on the opposite bank, there were a few double-storeyed houses there, with some vegetable grounds surrounding them. However, due to the lack of care and tending, there was no vegetable growing.

Zhang Xiao Qiang stopped the tractor by the bridge, as he brought Yang Ke’er across, wanting to give her more experiences in dealing with zombies. However, even after creeping up to the first house, there was no sign of any zombies.

“Seems like there’s something wrong?” He looked through his binoculars, noting that the village was extremely quiet, with no sign of light or smoke anywhere. The two of them proceeded with caution.

There was a building that looked somewhat new that stood at the edge of the village, with a brick house on either side, and the building was surrounded tightly by over a hundred zombies. However, there was no sign of any activity above.

“There’s someone up there?” Looking through the binoculars, Zhang Xiao Qiang came to a conclusion.

“Should we save them?”

That was the important question!

He was currently hesitating, this could be considered the 3rd survivor he came across, and the 6th survivor that Yang Ke’er met. Other than the both of them, the rest had met their ends due to various reasons.

The survivability of humans in the apocalypse was too small, Zhang Xiao Qiang also hoped to meet more survivors, but the number of zombies in front of was too daunting.

“If it were just a few, or a dozen, I would still consider, but I don’t have any choice now!” He decided to give them up, and hoped to scavenge for more resources before they attracted the zombies.

“Wait over here, I’ll go drive the tractor over!” He turned to Yang Ke’er and said.

“Uncle, look!” Yang Ke’er pointed to behind Zhang Xiao Qiang, exclaiming.

The zombie horde had started to shamble over towards them, led by 2 S-Types, while the D-Type and ordinary zombies were behind.

“Run!” Zhang Xiao Qiang grabbed Yang Ke’er’s hands and started making for the river.

“Are you hurt anywhere?” Zhang Xiao Qiang asked as they ran.

“No! Why?” Yang Ke’er had a incredulous expression as she replied.

“Then could you have touched something with blood?” He pressed again.

“Blood? Oh, Uncle, en, that, does that count?” Yang Ke’er replied with embarrassment.

As they spoke, they came to the bridge, the S-Type drawing closer, dashing ahead of the rest of the horde by a large margin.

“Let’s talk later!” Zhang Xiao Qiang gripped his beast horn spear tightly and turned around to meet the lunge of the S-Type, intending to take down the most threatening S-Types first!

The 2 S-Types lunged towards Zhang Xiao Qiang, who sucked in a deep breath and thrusted forwards. The front S-Type stopped suddenly, its body turning rigid, as the beast horn pierced through its brain, emerging from behind. He then twisted the spear, causing half the head to be sliced off and sent flying.

Just as he adjusted his stance, the other S-Type came swiping at Zhang Xiao Qiang, and he hurriedly brought the spear up to block, preparing to thrust forwards yet again.

“Peng” Came the sound of a sniper crossbow from behind, as the S-Type found an arrow in its eye socket with a “Pu”, before it slumped to the ground.

“Uncle, how was that?” Yang Ke’er had a smug expression.

The D-Type and the other ordinary zombies were still a distance away, hence the pair walked slowly towards the tractor.

“What did you say that thing was?” Zhang Xiao Qiang was a little doubtful.

“Uncle, you’re so bad, it’s the thing that happens to girls every month!” Yang Ke’er rolled her eyes, with an expression as though Zhang Xiao Qiang was lacking in common sense.

“Oh! It sure is a huge wound!” He nodded silently, before stopping as he realised something.

“Hey, didn’t you say you were pregnant?” He looked at her in bewilderment.

“What does a pregnancy have to do with that?” Yang Ke’er had a similar expression as she retorted.

“That’s true! Are there any relations?” Zhang Xiao Qiang was thoroughly confused now, he had never studied this in biology before!

He took a look at the double-storeyed house on the opposite bank with a look of pity in his eyes, “There must be so many resources inside!” After turning his gaze away, he inadvertently noticed that the bridge was made of cement, but the barrier in front of the bridge was made of red brick, possibly due to some scrimping of materials. If one stomped hard enough, the red bricks could be shaken loose.

With an idea popping in his head, he exclaimed: “I’ve got it!”

If he destroyed part of barrier on the opposite side to accommodate 2 or 3 people, then drive the tractor to block the centre of the bridge, it could seal the bridge.

“Give me that item!” Zhang Xiao Qiang immediately told Yang Ke’er.

“What thing?!” Yang Ke’er had a strange look.

“Your sanitary pad, tampon, whatever that has your ‘blood gelatin’!” Zhang Xiao Qiang replied with a serious expression. Chapter 33: Cannibalism!

After racking his brains and using all sorts of innuendos to refer to the item, Zhang Xiao Qiang finally managed to obtain “it” from Yang Ke’er, even when holding it, he could feel the warmth. He got Yang Ke’er to back up a distance, so as to not attract the zombies.

Zhang Xiao Qiang then used 2 fingers to gingerly grab “it”, and placed it carefully at the tip of the beast horn spear. The beast horde was nearing, and he stretched the spear outwards over the river, awaiting the zombie horde to get hooked.

The beast horn spear and the “item” hanging at the tip looked like a flag waving in the air, with that bit of red that attracted the attention of the zombies.

Zhang Xiao Qiang stood behind the tractor, coupled with the length of the spear of about 1.5m, he stood out of reach of the zombies.

The D-Type had reached the bridge by then, and as the blood on “that thing” was fresh, the D-Type seemed to ignore everything else and tried to lunge for “that”.

“Splash!” The D-Type stepped on thin air and fell into the river below. The remaining zombies behind immediately lurched forwards in agitation, smelling fresh blood. Their steps quickened, as they scrambled to reach the “item”, falling into the river like ducks in the meantime.

The D-Type was below the bridge and struggling to get up, but was constantly knocked back down by the falling zombies one after another. The pile of zombies began to grow like a pyramid until all of them had fallen into the river. Their limbs were intertwined, locking each other in place, and one could even hear the muffled groans of the D-Type underneath!

“Haha! As expected, I’m amazing for having such a bright idea! Haha!” Zhang Xiao Qiang gloated in glee on the bridge, before beckoning for Yang Ke’er to come back.

He then shook the beast horn spear free of the “item”, dropping it on the mountain of corpses below, and without sparing a second look, he drove the tractor further into the village.

As he drove, he whistled a tune happily, while Yang Ke’er sat restlessly in the trunk.

“That D-Type was truly one of its kind, it actually got baited but the ‘gelatin’ to its demise.” Zhang Xiao Qiang thought happily to himself. “Oh right, it seems like if a man were to touch it, one would become unlucky? Will it really bring me bad luck?” He started to feel goosebumps.

The tractor came to a stop outside the bungalow that was surrounded by the zombies earlier. Zhang Xiao Qiang came down and surveyed the surroundings, seemed like the owner of the place was well off. There was a plot of land in front of the house that was converted to a flower garden, and he assumed that the owner must have appreciated flowers.

He knocked on the iron door.

”No response?”

He then called out, “Is there anyone at home, I’m here to save you!”

There was still no response after a while.

Zhang Xiao Qiang then climbed over the fence, jumping into the garden. It had been neglected for too long and there were wilted flowers everywhere. The area was about 30 to 40sqm, with a well in the middle, which was covered with a metal board to prevent things from falling in.

He came up to the door and yanked it open.

Inside the house, one could see a few old-fashioned furniture that looked a little weathered, and there was a layer of dust over everything. There were no modern decorations, and the entire feel was ancient and aged, giving Zhang Xiao Qiang the impression that he had stepped into the 1920s or 1930s.

Following the wooden staircase up to the 2nd storey, the interior decor was a huge contrast, being extremely lavish and modern. However, there was a lack of light, and it gave off an eerie feeling.
